Ubiquisys is a Google-backed UK-based telecoms hardware start-up that produces a device called a femtocell – a small, cheap 3G access point that connects to a consumer’s broadband line and provides high quality cellular coverage and cheaper calls in the home. Temono began work with the company in August 2006, prior to its initial launch and when the concept of the femtocell was unknown.

Aims

  • Introduce and create enthusiasm around the femtocell concept;
  • Position Ubiquisys as leader in the femtocell market;
  • Drive operator and partner interest.

Actions

  • Conducted press tour introducing the ‘disruptive’ femtocell concept to key influencers in the telecoms media in 2006;
  • Influencer campaign was maintained and extended to top level business press;
  • Commenced campaign in 2007 around innovative CTO who “was tired of never getting mobile coverage in his kitchen”.

Results

  • Received regular major coverage across all telecoms trade and technology media including; The Register, Telecoms.com, Total Telecom, Unstrung, IDG, CNET, Mobile Communications International, Mobile Europe, Telecoms Redux, EETimes etc.
  • Covered in business press including; Reuters, Dow Jones, The Economist, FT, The Guardian, BBC Breakfast News, BBC Click & BBC Online;
  • Secured two executive presentations at Mobile World Congress 2008;
  • Named by ABI Research as leading femtocell vendor two years running – 2007 and 2008.
